Types of kidney cancer we treat
Through our oncology services and nephrology program, we treat all types of kidney cancer, including:
- Renal cell carcinomas, which are the most common type of kidney cancer and account for about 90 percent of cases
- Less common types of kidney cancers, such as transitional cell carcinomas (a cancer typically found in the urinary system) and Wilms' tumors (a rare type of kidney cancer that affects children)
- Benign (noncancerous) kidney tumors, which generally don't require treatment
Kidney cancer treatments
Oncologists at Medical City Arlington, Medical City Dallas, Medical City Fort Worth and Medical City Plano offer a comprehensive range of treatment options, including kidney cancer surgery, such as full or partial nephrectomy (a procedure to remove some or all of the kidney), and nonsurgical kidney cancer treatment options, such as immunotherapy or radiation therapy. They will explore all possible treatment options and tailor cancer care services to your unique diagnosis and medical needs.
In extreme cases, you may also be a candidate for a kidney transplant. For example, if part or all of a kidney needs to be removed but your other kidney isn't healthy enough to support your body on its own, your oncologist and kidney doctor may explore a transplant as a treatment option.
Cancer support
We know a cancer diagnosis affects more than your physical health. That's why cancer support groups are a major part of cancer care at Medical City Healthcare. If you've just learned about a cancer diagnosis, are supporting a loved one through treatment or are transitioning into survivorship, we can connect you with a local community for ongoing care.
About Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute
Medical City Dallas is part of the HCA Healthcare Sarah Cannon Cancer Network, which provides comprehensive cancer services with convenient access to cutting-edge therapies for people facing cancer in our communities.
