Neonatal intensive care where moms and babies stay together
At Medical City Dallas, we give mothers peace of mind by providing the highest level of neonatal intensive care available in our Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). What's more, because our full-service children's hospital, Level IV NICU and Women's Hospital are all located in the same building, you and your child can both receive the care you need in the same location.
Specialty high-risk pregnancy care
We're the only labor and delivery facility in North Texas with a full-service children's hospital, a women's hospital and an adult hospital on the same campus, where a mother-to-be with a high-risk pregnancy can stay with her newborn while they both receive treatment.
The Maternal Fetal Institute
The Maternal Fetal Institute at Medical City Dallas offers care for mothers with high-risk pregnancies. This allows any expectant mom to deliver her baby in a facility with a NICU, allowing us to treat and attend to the special needs of both mother and newborn. That means immediate care with no separation anxiety.
Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS)
As a Level IV Maternal Designation hospital, Medical City Dallas provides comprehensive, expert care for placenta accreta spectrum (PAS). PAS occurs when the placenta becomes abnormally attached to the uterine wall — and even to other organs — during pregnancy. If left untreated, the placenta will not detach normally after the baby is born, leaving mom with a high risk of hemorrhage (blood loss) and other severe and life-threatening conditions. Pregnant women diagnosed with PAS will almost always need to deliver via a C-section.
According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM), the best outcomes for patients with PAS rely on having a multidisciplinary team with experience and expertise in the management of placenta accreta spectrum. Medical City Dallas’ specialized, leading PAS experts have decades of experience and expertise in their specialties. This dedicated, multidisciplinary team is available around the clock and uses advanced techniques to control blood loss and help our moms deliver their babies safely.
With regular prenatal care, placenta accreta is most often diagnosed around the twentieth week of pregnancy during routine maternal-fetal imaging — such as an ultrasound. Patients found to have PAS during pregnancy may be referred to our Maternal Fetal Institute to confirm the diagnosis and determine the level of severity. In some cases, PAS is not detected until after delivery, which is why it’s vital to have an expert, dedicated team that is available immediately upon the birth of your baby.
