Our neurological program

Our experienced neurologists deliver innovative and compassionate care in a comfortable, safe environment.

Brain tumor treatment

We offers world-class treatment for all types of malignant and benign brain tumors, including acoustic neuroma, meningioma and tumors caused by brain cancer.

Specialized neurosurgical teams

Our hospital is home to a team of research-driven, fellowship-trained brain surgeons with more than 30 years of experience in skull base surgeries and more than 1,000 surgeries performed. Skull base surgeons provide you with a wide array of therapeutic and surgical options focused on the least amount of brain manipulation and aggressive tumor removal. The minimally invasive techniques of skull base surgery can offer faster recovery time with fewer side effects and less visible scarring.

Our hospital also has an advanced neurosurgical/neurovascular intensive care unit (NVICU), where dedicated teams of intensive care physicians and nurses monitor you 24/7. Our nurses and staff are specially trained to care for you before, during and after neurosurgery.

The brain tumor care team at our institute includes neuro-certified nurses and expert clinicians, in addition to:

  • Neurologists
  • Neurosurgeons
  • Neurotologists
  • Skull base otolaryngologists
  • Oculoplastic surgeons
  • Radiation oncologists
  • Pathologists

We offer advanced care for challenging neurological conditions with innovative treatment options, including:

  • Advanced endoscopic methods — These methods include the endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal approach.
  • Clinical trials — Our trials are leading edge treatments through our partnerships with cancer institutes.
  • Fluorescence-guided imaging — An imaging process that uses special fluorescent markers (such as 5-ALA) to help precisely identify the borders of a tumor. This procedure can aid in full removal of the tumor while minimizing risk to the surrounding brain.
  • Immunotherapy — This is a biological therapy using your own immune system to help fight against disease, such as cancer.
  • Minimally invasive skull base surgery — This procedure uses an endoscopic techniques to capture detailed images of the brain and allow surgeons to detect and correct problems without making large incisions.
  • Noninvasive robotic radiosurgery — This technologically advanced nonsurgical treatment option may benefit you if you have inoperable or surgically complex tumors or you desire an alternative to surgery.
  • Proton therapy — A type of targeted brain tumor radiation, proton therapy offers more powerful treatment capabilities with fewer side effects.
  • Targeted chemotherapy — A type of cancer treatment, this therapy treats only the cancerous cells and avoids healthy ones.
  • Traditional open surgery — This procedure is surgery that uses incisions to get a fuller view of how cancer has spread.

The goal of our multidisciplinary teams of physicians and specialists is always to provide the least-invasive treatment options that will offer the best possible results while minimizing risk to delicate brain and nerve structures.

Advanced treatment for acoustic neuroma

Acoustic neuroma, also called vestibular schwannoma, is a noncancerous tumor that develops on the nerve that leads from the inner ear to the brain.

Our specialists have extensive expertise in the diagnosis, treatment and management of acoustic neuroma. We will discuss available treatment options with you and together, you’ll decide on a plan that will be designed to give you the best possible outcome for your specific tumor type. Treatment options include regular monitoring, radiation therapy and surgery to remove the tumor.

To preserve and protect important structures during surgery, including the brain and nerves, our specialists have pioneered techniques to treat acoustic neuroma without using retractors. This can help to preserve facial nerve function, hearing and eyesight while minimizing the risk of injury to the brain.

Advanced treatment for meningioma

Meningioma is a type of brain tumor that most often develops in the covering of the brain, called the dura mater. Our oncologist will discuss available treatment options with you and together, you’ll agree on a plan of action. Surgical resection (traditional surgery to remove all or part of the tissue) offers the best chance for complete tumor removal and the lowest chance of recurrence.

While there are risks and benefits to all treatment options, our specialists have developed minimally invasive methods for meningioma resection that can reduce incision size, bone removal and risk of neurologic injury. This minimally invasive approach helps to preserve brain tissue and may result in faster recovery times and reduced complication rates.

If you are not a candidate for surgery, our multidisciplinary teams of neurosurgeons and radiation oncologists offer focused-beam radiation, also called stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). Unlike more traditional radiation treatments, SRS provides high doses of targeted radiation within the tumor while reducing the amount of radiation directed at surrounding brain tissue.

Advanced treatment for pituitary tumors

Our hospital's brain tumor team offers a multidisciplinary approach that provides expertise in all areas related to your complex condition. This includes specialists in endocrinology, ophthalmology and neurosurgery. Our experts will work with you to create a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan for your specific needs.

Pituitary tumors are frequently removed using the endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal approach. This specialized, minimally invasive technique enables the removal of the tumor with cameras placed through the nose and sinuses with no external incision.
