Respiratory testing
At Medical City Dallas, we evaluate your diaphragm, the muscle between the chest and abdomen, through a sniff test. A sniff test performs a fluoroscopic evaluation of the muscle that raises and lowers as you breathe in and out. Sniff tests are performed for patients who have shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.
During the procedure, a radiologist monitors the movement of the diaphragm with the use of a fluoroscope, a device that projects images in real time onto a screen in the exam room. The radiologist will interpret the images, and a signed report will be sent to your physician to discuss your results with you.
Pulmonary function lab
The pulmonary function lab at Medical City Dallas provides additional breathing tests that can help pulmonologists diagnosis respiratory diseases. The lab offers tests such as simple spirometry, lung diffusion, methacholine challenge, Plethysmography (Body Box), stress tests and Pentamidine treatments.
