Volunteer services at Medical City Dallas
Volunteerism is one of our greatest sources of pride at Medical City. Volunteers assist in achieving the hospital's mission and vision by providing comfort services and support to patients, families, visitors, and staff at Medical City Dallas, Medical City Heart & Spine Hospitals and Medical City Children's Hospital. They also interact with the community to positively promote volunteerism in connection with the objectives of Medical City Dallas.
Student Volunteer Program (undergraduate students, 18 years of age and older)
We are currently accepting student applications. All applicants must meet the following requirements in order to be considered for placement:
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.
- Complete an online volunteer application at least 60 days prior to start of preferred session.
- Commit to consistently complete a minimum of one, 4-hour shift every week for the entire session; only 2 absences are allowed for the duration of the session; absences are required to be made up within one week of absence.
- All student volunteers are asked to commit to one session at a time:
- Summer Session (2026)
- May 17, 2026 - August 15, 2026
- Fall Session (2026)
- August 16, 2026 – January 9, 2027
- Spring Session (2027)
- January 10, 2027 – May 15, 2027
- Summer Session (2027)
- May 16, 2027 – August 14, 2027
- Fall Session (2027)
- August 15, 2027 – January 15, 2028
- Summer Session (2026)
- Provide copy of complete immunization record and COVID-19 vaccination(s).
- Provide seasonal flu vaccination documentation (during current flu season ONLY).
- Provide photo (.jpg format) for security/badging.
- Attend scheduled appointment to complete initial volunteer requirements:
- Complete initial paperwork.
- Submit to background check (copy of current driver's license is required).
- Complete initial health screening (includes blood draw to assess Tuberculosis exposure and immunity against Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella).
- Complete a session of New Volunteer Hospital Orientation (NVHO).
Adult Volunteer Program (18 years of age and older)
We are currently accepting adult applications. All applicants must meet the following requirements in order to be considered for placement:

Specific volunteer opportunities
Volunteer assignments are created based on the current needs of our hospitals. Each volunteer is assessed for his/her special skills and interests, then assigned to an area where they can provide essential support in.
Standard volunteer shift times are: Monday-Friday, 7:45am-12:00pm or 11:45am-4:00pm (shift times may vary depending on assignment).
Volunteers are currently assigned to these areas:
- Medical City Dallas Hospital
- Hospital Lobbies & Surgery Waiting Areas
- Volunteer Team Leader
- Volunteers serve in a leadership role on a specific day and shift of the week in the Hospital Lobbies & Surgery Waiting Areas
- Lead shift huddle for his/her team; deploys Volunteer Ambassadors to assigned work stations in lobbies and surgery waiting areas
- Ensure the opening/closing of lobby information desks & surgery waiting areas
- Supervise the members of his/her team; ensure they have the tools and resources needed to help our guests; orient new team members; provide troubleshooting, when needed
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, 7:45am-12:00pm or 11:45a-4:00pm
- Volunteer Ambassador
- Volunteers serve as customer service agents in the hospital's lobbies and surgery waiting areas
- Greet and welcome guests to the hospital and surgery waiting areas; round on guests frequently while they wait
- Provide directional assistance and general information about the hospital; escort guests to their destinations; offer wheelchairs to guests, when needed; provide comfort care services for our patients and their families; ensure lobbies are supplied with wheelchairs; check public common areas for cleanliness
- Assist Volunteer Team Leader with daily operations of the hospital lobbies and surgery waiting areas
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, 7:45am-12:00pm or 11:45am-4:00pm
- Animal Assisted Pet Therapy
- Pet Therapy Volunteers
- Volunteers serve as customer service agents in the hospital's patient care areas
- Provide comfort care services for the hospital's patients and staff; offer animal assisted pet therapy, when requested; participate in scheduled hospital events for patients and staff
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, shift times will vary depending on current needs of the hospital
- SPECIAL NOTE: Pet Therapy dogs must have current pet therapy certification and vaccination records
- Emergency Department
- Volunteer Ambassador
- Volunteers serve as customer service agents in the hospital's Emergency Department
- Provide comfort care services for the Emergency Room patients and their families; restock department supplies; help prepare rooms for incoming patients; ensure department has supply of wheelchairs
- Assist charge nurse with non-clinical duties, as requested
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, 7:45am-12:00pm or 11:45am-4:00pm or 3:45pm- 8:00pm
- Oncology Services
- Volunteer Ambassador
- Volunteers serve as customer service agents in the hospital's Cancer Resource Center
- Greet and welcome guests to the center
- Provide comfort care services for center's oncology patients; help provide necessary resources for cancer patients and their loved ones
- Assist coordinator with daily operations of the center
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, 8:45am-12:00pm or 11:45am-4:00pm
- Surgical Services
- Volunteer Ambassador
- Volunteers serve as customer service agents in the hospital's Surgical Services departments
- Provide comfort care services for the adult surgery patients and their families; restock department supplies; help prepare rooms for incoming patients; ensure department has supply of wheelchairs and stretchers; escort families to their destinations; assemble and restock Patient Soup Kits and Patient Comfort Bags, when needed
- Assist charge nurse with non-clinical duties, as requested
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, 7:45am-12:00pm or 11:45am-4:00pm
- Volunteer Services Office
- Volunteer Day Captain
- Volunteers serve in a leadership role on a specific day and shift of the week in the Volunteer Services office
- Ensures the opening/closing of the Volunteer Services Office
- Supports the Volunteer Team Leader to ensure he/she has the tools and resources needed to help our guests
- Assist manager with daily operations of the Volunteer Services office
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, 7:45am-12:00pm or 11:45a-4:00pm
- Volunteer Ambassador
- Volunteers serve as customer service agents in the hospital's Volunteer Service office
- Complete assigned special projects
- Assist Volunteer Day Captain and Manager with daily operations of the Volunteer Services office
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, 7:45a-12p or 11:45a-4p
- Medical City Heart & Spine Hospitals
- Hospital Lobbies & Surgery Waiting Areas
- Volunteer Team Leader

- Child Life Volunteer
- Volunteers serve as customer service agents in the hospital's Child Life department
- Provide comfort care services for the hospital's pediatric patients and their families; provide pediatric patients with age-appropriate play and activities, when requested; help maintain playrooms for incoming patients; restock department supplies; help process donated toys and other items; participate in scheduled events for pediatric patients and their families
- Assist Child Life staff with non-clinical duties, as requested
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, 8:45am-12:00pm or 11:45am-4:00pm
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- NICU Cuddle Volunteer
- Volunteers serve as customer service agents in the hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU)
- Provide comfort care services for the hospital's NICU patients; offer cuddling, age-appropriate play, and activities for NICU patients, when requested; provide breaks for parents; participate in scheduled events for NICU patients and their families
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, 8:45am-12:00pm or 11:45am-3:00pm
- Ronald McDonald House Hospitality Cart Program
- Volunteer Ambassador
- Volunteers serve as customer service agents in the hospital's Child Life department and Pediatric Emergency Department
- Provide comfort care services for the hospital's pediatric patients and their families; provide pediatric patients with age-appropriate play and activities, when requested; help maintain playrooms for incoming patients; restock department supplies; help process donated toys and other items; participate in scheduled events for pediatric patients and their families
- Assist Child Life staff with non-clinical duties, as requested
- Shift times: Sun/Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri/Sat, shift times will vary depending on current needs of the pediatric patient population
