Volunteer services at Medical City Dallas
Volunteerism is one of our greatest sources of pride at Medical City. Volunteers assist in achieving the hospital’s mission and vision by providing comfort services and support to patients, families, visitors and staff at Medical City Dallas, Medical City Heart & Spine and Medical City Children’s Hospital. They also interact with the community to positively promote volunteerism in connection with the objectives of Medical City Dallas.
Adult volunteer program (18 years of age and older)
We are currently accepting adult applications. All applicants must meet the following requirements in order to be considered for placement:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have completed an online volunteer application
- Must be willing to wear a Level-1 mask (provided by the hospital) while on duty in the hospital
- Commit to consistently attend at least one, 4-hour shift every week (as assigned)
- All volunteers are asked to commit to one semester at a time:
- Fall Semester (2022)
- August 21, 2022 – January 7, 2023
- Spring Semester (2023)
- January 8, 2023 – May 20, 2023
- Summer Semester (2023)
- May 21, 2023 – August 19, 2023
- Fall Semester (2023)
- August 20, 2023 – January 6, 2024
- Fall Semester (2022)
- Provide copy of complete immunization record and COVID-19 vaccination(s)
- Provide seasonal flu vaccination documentation (during current flu season)
- Provide photo (jpg format) for security/badging
- Attend scheduled appointment to complete initial requirements:
- Entry paperwork
- Background authorization forms (copy of driver’s license is required)
- Initial health screening (includes Tuberculosis assessment, review of medical health history and blood work to verify immunity against Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella)
- Attend session of New Volunteer Hospital Orientation (NVHO)
Specific volunteer opportunities
We are assigning adult volunteers to help in our hospital lobbies, the Volunteer Services office, the Child Life department, the Cancer Resource Center and in our Surgery Waiting Rooms. Standard volunteer shifts times are: Monday-Friday, 8:00am – noon or noon – 4:00pm (shift times may vary depending on assignment)
Hospital Lobbies (Medical City Dallas / Medical City Heart & Spine)
Volunteer concierge
- Volunteers serve as customer service agents at the hospital’s Information Desks
- Greet and welcome guests
- Escort guests to destination
- Provide general information about the hospital and its services
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, 8:00am – noon or noon – 4:00pm
Volunteer Services office (Medical City Dallas)
Volunteer day captain
- Volunteers serve in leadership role on a specific day and shift of the week in the Volunteer Services office
- Assist with opening/closing of Volunteer Services office and Information Desks
- Provide essential tools and resources for Information Desk teams
- Assist manager with daily operations of the Volunteer Services office
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, 8:00am – noon or noon – 4:00pm
Child Life department (Medical City Children’s Hospital)
Child life volunteer
- Volunteers serve as customer service agents in the hospital’s Pediatric Service Line
- Provide comfort care services to patients and their loved ones
- Assist Child Life specialists with cleaning of toys and playrooms, sorting/labeling/organizing donations, helping with special events
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, 9:00am – 1:00pm or 1:00pm – 5:00pm
Cancer Resource Center (Medical City Dallas)
Volunteer ambassador
- Volunteers serve as customer service agents in the hospital’s Cancer Resource Center
- Greet and welcome guests to the center
- Provide comfort care services and help get necessary resources for cancer patients and their loved ones
- Assist coordinator with daily operations of the center
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, 9:00am – 4:00pm
Surgery waiting rooms (Medical City Dallas)
Volunteer ambassador
- Volunteers serve as customer service agents in the hospital’s Surgical Services department
- Assist with opening/closing surgery waiting rooms
- Greet and welcome guests
- Provide comfort care services and general information about the hospital and its services to guests
- Provide non-clinical support to recovery room staff and surgeons
- Shift times: Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri, 7:00am – 11:00am or 11:00am – 3:00pm
