Prestigious honor recognizes quality care, baby-and-family friendly services

December 09, 2024

Medical City Dallas has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a 2025 High-Performing hospital for Maternity Care -- the highest rating in the publication’s annual maternity care study.

As part of its top rating, Medical City Dallas was named “Birthing-Friendly” by U.S. News because of its quality improvement initiatives and patient safety practices for maternal outcomes. The rating analyzes rigorous quality measures and notes Medical City Dallas specifically for breastfeeding and support of moms before and after delivery.

“This honor is a testament to the high-quality, compassionate care of our outstanding team,” says Jay deVenny, CEO of Medical City Dallas. “This honor is a validation of why so many moms and families seek out our hospital as the destination of choice for maternity excellence.”

As part of Medical City Dallas, Medical City Women’s Hospital Dallas is one of the leading birthing centers in the region, with more than 5,300 babies delivered annually. The facility earned a Level IV Maternity Designation, the highest level of care designated by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The program features:

  • A Level IV NICU, the largest in the region, for critically ill infants
  • A specialized placenta accreta program for high-risk pregnancies
  • Childbirth classes
  • Private rooms and suites

The hospital has been named by DFWChild Magazine as one of the Best Hospitals to Have a Baby in Dallas County for four consecutive years, for services such as:

  • Offers breastfeeding and lactation support
  • Allows partners to stay with moms in the hospital after delivery
  • Provides perinatal and postpartum depression services

“The hospitals recognized by U.S. News as Best Hospitals for Maternity Care showcase exceptional care for expectant parents,” says Jennifer Winston, PhD, health data scientist at U.S. News. “These hospitals demonstrate significantly lower C-section rates and severe unexpected newborn complications compared to hospitals not recognized by U.S. News.”

In addition to the High Performing rating, Medical City Dallas earned the Maternity Care Access designation from U.S. News, recognizing its role in providing vital maternity services to communities that might otherwise face limited access to quality care. This distinction reflects the hospital’s work to prevent maternity care deserts, where access to essential healthcare services is otherwise scarce.
