Medical City Sachse Adds Rapid Treatment for Severe Heart Attacks
Medical City Sachse launches a cardiovascular program to treat patients experiencing severe heart attacks.
Sachse, TX – Medical City Sachse has launched a life-saving cardiovascular program to provide faster and more comprehensive care for patients experiencing heart attacks. In partnership with local emergency services, the new heart program addresses the community's growing need for advanced cardiovascular care, when and where it’s needed – close to home.
Medical City Sachse is now able to treat the most severe type of heart attack, called STEMI (ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction). These attacks occur when a coronary artery is almost completely blocked, preventing essential blood and oxygen flow to the heart. According to the National Institute of Health, up to 10% of people who experience a STEMI heart attack die within 30 days. This enhanced emergency heart care now available at Medical City Sachse includes the ability to perform percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), a treatment to open a blocked artery. A PCI can only be performed by a hospital with a cardiac catheterization lab.
"Medical City Sachse is the only hospital providing cardiac catheterization services in the Sachse community,” says Ben Coogan, CEO of Medical City Plano and Medical City Sachse. “The STEMI program’s addition brings a significant advance in heart care available nearby, further supporting Medical City Sachse as the destination of choice for healthcare excellence for these areas."
Medical City Sachse’s leading-edge Cath lab offers optimal technology and room for cardiologists and heart specialists to maneuver around with complete access to the patient. The hospital collaborates with paramedics and EMS providers to activate the cardiac catheterization lab, ensuring patients receive expert and rapid care upon arrival.
The addition of this vital emergency heart care capability is part of Medical City Healthcare’s ongoing investment initiative to expand services and facilities to serve the growing North Texas region. Learn more about cardiac care at Medical City Sachse here.
