Medical City Decatur hosts blood drive to address holiday need
Medical City Decatur partners with Carter BloodCare to host blood drive for the community to address holiday need.
DECATUR – In partnership with Carter Bloodcare, Medical City Decatur is hosting a December blood drive with an extra focus on overcoming holiday season blood shortages. Each year, Carter Bloodcare reports a decline in donations during the winter holidays due to busy schedules, travel and seasonal illnesses.

Community members may sign up to donate online.
“Donating blood is a gift that positively impacts our hospitalized patients and the broader community during the holiday season and beyond,” says Medical City Decatur CEO Jason Wren.
Every blood type is needed, especially types O positive and O negative, as well as platelet donations. Donors can help as many as three different people with just one donation.
Blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health. People who give blood should eat a nourishing meal before donating and must bring a photo ID. To protect Carter BloodCare staff and donors' health and safety, individuals who do not feel well or believe they may be ill with COVID-19 must postpone their blood donation.
