Medical City Decatur will celebrate $400,000 in improvements to its emergency department with a community ribbon-cutting on Jan. 22. The facility renovations, technology updates and staffing enhancements are designed to advance expert ER care for Wise County residents.

New investments in Medical City Decatur’s 20-bed emergency department will help patients get from assessment to expert treatment and back to life faster – with care from an experienced team of ER professionals. Updates include:

  • Larger triage area with space for blood draws, to increase patient comfort and service efficiency
  • Partial wall addition to improve patient privacy, preventing visibility from the waiting room
  • Fast-track area to facilitate more efficient patient intake
  • New technology, including ultrasound imaging and specialized pediatric equipment
  • Updated emergency medical services (EMS) lounge

In addition, a new medical director, Michael Hong, MD, brings extensive experience in emergency medicine to help lead the ER team in providing exceptional care for Wise County patients and their families.

“Our newly renovated emergency department reflects our dedication to meeting the evolving healthcare needs of our community by combining leading-edge technology and patient-centered care,” says Jason Wren, Medical City Decatur CEO. “These enhancements – supported by additional physician expertise -- further enhance our ability to provide swift, skillful and compassionate emergency treatment.”

Medical City Decatur is a full-service emergency room staffed with board-certified emergency physicians who provide expert, compassionate care close to home. Emergency services are offered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including full-service pediatric emergency care, with diagnosis and treatment for infants and children.

The renovation is part of Medical City Healthcare's major capital investment initiative of more than $1.6 billion in capital improvements, including building acquisitions and expansions, facility enhancements and leading-edge technology.
