Lenora Williams is recovering well after undergoing the 1,000th kidney transplant at Medical City Fort Worth Hospital.
A Texas woman with diabetes celebrated a lifesaving medical milestone as the 1,000th kidney transplant at Medical City Fort Worth. The achievement underscores the exceptional capabilities and impact of Medical City Fort Worth’s Transplant Institute as a leading institution for kidney transplantation in North Texas.
Lenora Williams, a resident of Midland, TX, received the 1,000th kidney transplant after experiencing complications from diabetes and being on dialysis for seven months. Two months after joining the organ transplant waiting list, she received the joyous call that a kidney match from a deceased donor had been found.
“I know it was God's will. He wanted me to have it,” Williams says. “I feel great. I would tell anyone experiencing kidney disease to come to Medical City Fort Worth, these are the nicest people I've ever seen. They help you, they give you hope.”
Recently released data from the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) rated Medical City Fort Worth’s Transplant Institute as number one in Texas for kidney transplants and at the top of national ratings for one-year kidney survival. Medical City Fort Worth is also highly rated in the SRTR’s “Getting a deceased donor transplant faster” category. For kidney transplant candidates, this measure has the largest impact on survival after listing.
"The completion of our 1,000th kidney transplant is a remarkable achievement that underscores the dedication and expertise of our Transplant Institute team," says John Hoover, CEO of Medical City Fort Worth. "We are incredibly proud of our status as the top kidney transplant program in Texas and our high national ratings, which is why so many patients in the region turn to us as the destination of choice for lifesaving kidney transplantation."
These accomplishments by Medical City Fort Worth's Transplant Institute reflect the commitment to providing comprehensive care for kidney transplant candidates, including post-transplant support, which has significantly influenced the program’s exceptional patient outcomes.
