If you are diagnosed with breast cancer, you'll have the support of a team of specialists in medical, surgical and radiation oncology, imaging, pathology, genetic counseling and physical medicine. They will work together with nurse navigators, oncology nurses and social workers to determine a breast cancer treatment plan that's right for you. With new technologies and ongoing involvement in cancer research and care, our breast cancer services include:

  • Diagnosis and early detection
  • Radiation therapy
  • Susceptibility gene testing (e.g., BRCA gene testing) and genetic counseling
  • Financial counseling

  • Physical rehabilitation
  • Breast surgery and reconstruction, including mastectomy and lumpectomy

Breast reconstruction

Breast reconstruction typically involves multiple stages, usually with a minimum of two surgeries. In most cases, the first surgery is the "biggest," with subsequent surgeries typically performed as outpatient procedures. For example, if a woman has a mastectomy (breast removal) to remove one breast, it may be necessary or desired to have a procedure involving the other breast to achieve symmetry.

Breast surgeries and reconstruction procedures available include:

  • Breast implants
  • Latissimus flap surgery
  • TRAM (transverse rectus abdominis muscle) flap surgery
  • DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforators)/SIEA (superficial inferior epigastric artery) flap surgery
  • Hidden-scar surgery
  • One-step implant immediate breast reconstruction
  • One-step latissimus/implant/nipple breast reconstruction
  • One-step nipple-sparing mastectomy with reconstruction
  • Skin-sparing mastectomy
  • Tissue regeneration
  • Tissue assessment
