Medical City Healthcare - September 27, 2019

If you look forward to the State Fair of Texas every year and want to add a little healthy competition of your own, you've come to the right place. Try these tips for making your state fair visit just a tiny bit more healthful this year — and get the whole family involved in the process!

Split fairgoers into teams and challenge each other to:

  • Share just one fried specialty item per team
  • Choose healthier, non-fried options for main meals
  • Skip the sugary and artificially sweetened sodas and stick to water.
  • Count your steps

Reward teams who stick to the rules and rack up the most steps with extra tickets for rides and games. Or, take the money you saved on fried foods and sodas and plan another family outing. Either way, everyone wins!

Know your risk for heart attack

Eat this, not that.

We asked Amy Haynes, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist at Medical City Dallas and Medical City Children's Hospital, to help us swap out some favorite fair foods with healthier choices your kids can make at home, any time.
