New Tower Includes an Intensive Care Unit

Fort WorthMedical City Fort Worth celebrated the opening of its $65 million, 90,000 square foot three-story patient tower with a ribbon cutting ceremony held on Monday, December 17. The new tower will open on Wednesday, December 19.

The new tower includes an expanded emergency department, a 28-bed intensive care unit, a rooftop helipad and highly trained and compassionate staff.

"We are thrilled to open this new patient tower, equipped with leading edge technology in a comfortable and healing environment," said Jyric Sims, FACHE, CEO of Medical City Fort Worth." This project was a labor of love which will provide much needed emergency and intensive care services to the Fort Worth community and beyond."

The new ER within tower includes:

  • 24/7/365 emergency services
  • 30 private emergency treatment rooms
  • Board-certified emergency medicine physicians
  • Pediatric care capabilities, including six designated pediatric-friendly rooms
  • Two trauma rooms
  • One room specifically equipped for behavioral health patients
  • Advanced imaging capabilities, including X-ray and CT
  • On-site laboratory

The opening of the Medical City Fort Worth's patient tower is part of a major capital investment initiative of more than $1.7 billion spent or committed over four years across the Medical City Healthcare system. Investments include expansion and improvements to existing hospitals, new services such as burn and trauma care, upgraded technology and the purchase and construction of new facilities.

The grand-opening event was attended by Medical City Healthcare leaders, board members, community guests and elected officials including Fort Worth City Councilmember Ann Zadeh.
