Plano, TX – Medical City Plano is the first hospital in Texas and the third in the U.S. to perform a benign hysterectomy using the latest FDA-approved robotic technology. Patients may benefit from this innovative robotic platform designed to provide greater access to minimally-invasive robotic surgery for benign gynecologic procedures.
With this addition to its robotic surgery suite, Medical City Plano is currently the only hospital outside of Florida where the platform is available. As the first and only FDA-authorized surgical robot to feature miniature humanoid-shaped arms including shoulder, elbow and wrist joints, this innovative technology replicates a surgeon's precise movements to deliver human dexterity with robotic precision and agility.
“As a designated epicenter for robotic surgery excellence in North Texas, we’re excited to add this to our cache of innovative technology to care for our patients and communities,” says Jyric Sims, PhD, FACHE, CEO of Medical City Plano. “Our dedication to serving as the leading provider of the most advanced technology is one of many reasons why our community trusts Medical City Plano as the destination of choice for gynecologic care.”
Weighing 13 pounds, this versatile technology requires a much smaller footprint in operating rooms than conventional robotic systems, making it significantly more mobile and possible for the hospital to offer more patients access to the benefits of less invasive robotic surgery. The proprietary technology is designed to enable the minimally invasive transvaginal approach for benign gynecological procedures including:
- Ovarian cyst removal
As gynecologic surgery has evolved, minimally invasive techniques and how they expand access to care has become a top focus. Benefits of robot-assisted surgery vary, depending on the procedure performed and other factors, and may include:
- Less invasive and smaller incisions
- Reduced pain and discomfort
- Shorter hospital stays
- Less cosmetic scarring
- Faster recovery time and return to normal activities
