Dallas, Texas In recognition of the extraordinary efforts and sacrifices made by healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, Medical City Healthcare hospitals proudly hosted observance events across the system to commemorate the inaugural Texas COVID-19 Heroes and Memorial Day.

House Bill 2166, passed during the 2023 Texas legislative session, designated March 4 – the date of the first reported COVID-19 case in Texas in 2020 – as COVID-19 Heroes and Memorial Day.

“On this recognition day, it’s important to pause and memorialize the critical work and personal sacrifices our healthcare heroes have made in the ongoing battle against COVID-19,” says Allen Harrison, president of Medical City Healthcare. “From the bedside to our vital support staff, we are incredibly proud of our dedicated colleagues who showed up day after day to care for our community. And, we honor those who lost their lives to this terrible virus.”

Medical City Healthcare hospitals honored frontline healthcare workers and all colleagues for demonstrating unwavering bravery in the face of a global pandemic. Colleagues gathered for reflection, remarks and prayers at each hospital and to memorialize the 95,000 Texans who died of COVID-19.
