FORT WORTH – Medical City Fort Worth has been recertified with the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Chest Pain. In addition, the hospital has earned two consecutive three-star ratings in 2021 from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for its patient care and outcomes in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures.
The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects a healthcare organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. The STS three-star rating denotes the highest category of quality and places Medical City Fort Worth among the elite for heart bypass surgery in the United States and Canada.
“Our patients receive excellent heart and vascular care because of the skilled experts and healthcare heroes at Medical City Fort Worth who are committed to high quality, safe and compassionate care,” says Medical City CEO Ben Coogan. “These recognitions from prestigious healthcare accrediting organizations affirm why Medical City Fort Worth is the destination of choice for cardiovascular care.”
Medical City Fort Worth first earned chest pain certification from The Joint Commission in 2017 and its first three-star STS rating for CABG in July 2021. The STS star rating system is one of the most sophisticated and highly regarded overall measures of quality in healthcare, rating the benchmarked outcomes of cardiothoracic surgery programs across the United States and Canada. Historically, about 20% of hospitals receive the three-star rating for isolated coronary artery bypass surgery.
“This STS rating means that Medical City Fort Worth’s cardiovascular surgery department is among an elite top 20 percent in the U.S. and Canada for quality care in heart bypass surgery,” says Reza Khalafi, MD, medical director of cardiovascular surgery. “My congratulations to the nursing staff, administration and all of our colleagues who are involved in the excellent care provided for our surgical patients at Medical City Fort Worth.”
