Fort Worth, TX – Every year, about 805,000 people in the United States have a heart attack, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a major underlying cause. Now, patients at Medical City Fort Worth have access to a new technology that can monitor CAD and alert patients that they need to seek medical attention -even before symptoms occur.

Medical City Fort Worth is the first in Texas to use the world’s first and only FDA-approved implantable cardiac monitor with patient alerting.

“We are proud to be the first in Texas to use this game-changing technology,” says Ben Coogan, CEO of Medical City Fort Worth. “Our expert physicians believe this surveillance tool could save many lives and bring peace of mind to many families. Compassionate, expert care with leading-edge techniques and technology is why Medical City Fort Worth is the destination of choice for heart care in Fort Worth.”

Implanted similarly to a pacemaker, the technology monitors the heart’s electrical signal 24/7 for rapid changes that occur during resting heart rate which may indicate that the heart is not getting enough oxygen. The system can detect coronary artery blockage, even when a person has no symptoms or has atypical symptoms. When it detects a potential blockage, it vibrates inside the chest, alerting patients that they need to seek medical attention.
