Fort Worth, Texas – Emergency nursing care at Medical City Alliance has earned a Unit of Distinction (UOD) Award in an annual program that recognizes and rewards exemplary patient care within HCA Healthcare facilities.

The emergency services nursing staff at Medical City Alliance, led by unit director Erica Davidson, RN, was one of the top ten emergency services nursing teams nationwide selected to receive a 2018 Unit of Distinction recognition.

The UOD designation is achieved through measurable, outstanding performance in nursing leadership, professional practice and operations, and outcomes. Using a demanding list of criteria, units were scored to determine which would receive the UOD honor, placing them in the top five percent of all HCA Healthcare emergency services departments across the country. HCA Healthcare has 185 hospitals in 21 U.S. states and the United Kingdom.

"Excellence in emergency nursing requires a top-performing team committed to positive patient outcomes, professional development and efficient operations,” Medical City Alliance Chief Nursing Officer Dean Miller, RN, said. “I commend our outstanding emergency services team for working together to deliver the excellent care that our patients and their families deserve.”

An important component of the program is HCA Healthcare’s sponsorship of nurses to obtain national certification through programs accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties. This year, more than 2,600 HCA Healthcare-affiliated nurses expanded their professional knowledge and advanced their individual and professional skills to earn certification.
