Medical City Denton

We recognized Lewisville Police Officer Corbin Edgington recently for Stopping the Bleed. Officer Edgington arrived at the scene of a woman bleeding from a knife wound. Thinking quickly, Officer Corbin Edington applied a tourniquet to the woman’s left upper arm, stopping her bleeding. EMS soon arrived and transported her to Medical City Denton. The patient required prompt surgical repair but was able to regain use of her arm thanks to the quick action of Officer Edington and the surgeons at Medical City Denton.

Uncontrolled bleeding is one of the leading causes of preventable death after injury. A person can hemorrhage to death within 3 to 5 minutes after a major arterial injury. There is an increased movement to teach bystanders as well as first-responders how stop traumatic bleeding until medical help is available. The officer’s prompt response helped increase the patient’s chance of survival while helping to shorten the patient’s length of stay in the hospital.
