Two new knees gets patient back to her bike

Liliana Ramirez says earlier this year she couldn’t ride her bicycle or take a few steps without feeling intense pain. All that changed after coming to Medical City Las Colinas for two knee replacement surgeries.

“In January, I’m going to start my new life and enjoy my new life,” says Ramirez. “I have two grandchildren and I want to enjoy them again.”

After researching online, she came across Michael E. Muncy, DO, and decided to schedule a visit. But a chance encounter reassured Ramirez she had made the right choice. While shopping, she met a woman who had recently undergone the same procedure and was coincidentally a patient of Muncy’s. “I said, ‘Oh my goodness, that’s my doctor too!’ And she said, “Oh yes, you are in good hands.”

Ramirez spends a lot of time on her feet and is used to leading an active lifestyle. She had been experiencing pain in her knees for some time, but in May 2024 she had enough. “One day, my knee popped, and it didn’t go back. I was limping. That’s when I said I need to do something.”

After a successful first surgery, Ramirez returned a few months later to replace the other knee. Ramirez chose to come back largely because of Muncy’s exceptional care but also because of the wonderful staff. “Everyone was so friendly. So nice, so warm. Even some of the nurses I met during my first surgery visited me during my second.”

Ramirez is doing outpatient physical therapy at Medical City Las Colinas. Once fully recovered, she is eager to get back on a bicycle outside, “I like to bike, I want to ride a bike again. I want to be more active.”
