Brian Osborne arrived at Medical City Decatur’s emergency department in excruciating pain, unable to stand or walk due to a severe diverticulitis flare-up. Having experienced this colon condition before, Brian knew the importance of seeking immediate care.
From the moment he arrived, Brian says he was met with kindness, professionalism and excellence. The triage nurse took Brian’s vitals and ensured he received the necessary imaging, including an X-ray and CT scan. The ER physician was knowledgeable and efficient, assessing his condition and providing an accurate diagnosis.
Brian, a lead trainer at Fit-N-Wise for the past five years, once lived a very different lifestyle. As a salesman for over 30 years, long hours on the road led to poor eating habits, smoking, and other health issues, including Type 2 diabetes and obesity. Weighing 279 pounds at his heaviest, he faced a major wake-up call nine years ago when a diverticulitis attack landed him in the ICU for three days. That experience motivated him to take control of his health through fitness and nutrition.
“I’m still paying for the damage I did to myself in the past,” Brian shares. “But my body is now prepared to handle whatever sickness comes my way. Muscle is medicine! Eating healthy and working out allows me to recover quickly, no matter what.”
During his three-day stay at Medical City Decatur, Brian embraced a positive mindset, even engaging in a friendly step-count competition with the nurses. “They challenged me and I accepted!” he laughed.
Despite common challenges hospitals face, Brian was grateful for the exceptional care at Medical City Decatur. “The staff here has been amazing. They go above and beyond with dedication and compassion, making my time here as comfortable and positive as possible."
“This hospital has saved my life twice. My daughter was born here. Every time I have needed this hospital, the care has been great.”
