Amy Smith

Amy is appreciative of the quality care she received while giving birth to her second daughter at Medical City Dallas.

Amy Smith loved her obstetrician and her first delivery experience at Medical City so much she chose to have her second daughter at the hospital a year and a half later. "She's thorough, I think that she's compassionate and she promotes quality care," Smith said describing Dr. Kathryn Waldrep. "I don't feel like I'm just another patient."

At 8:05 a.m. on the last day of April, Smith gave birth by C-section to Aubrey who weighed 6 pounds and 14 ounces and was 19 inches long. Aubrey isn't just her mom's pride and joy, but also lovingly doted on by her 20-month-old big sister, Jacqueline. "She gives her hugs and kisses," Smith said. "When she cries, she wants to know what's wrong."

And mom didn't have to worry about anything being wrong from the minute Aubrey was born to the time that immediately followed in the recovery room. "The nurse put me at ease, while respecting my privacy so I was focused on what I needed to do."

Smith appreciated how the nurses stayed on top of her medical needs, assisted with breast feeding right away and gave her consistent information and instructions. And in the middle of everything, they still managed to allow for much-needed quiet time for mom and baby. She even requested several of the same nurses if they were working the next night.

"The nurses did a good job of anticipating my needs." Smith said she knew the family-oriented care she would receive from a consistent and compassionate staff was well worth the drive from her family's home in Flower Mound. "It's nice to have that quality of care."
