ARLINGTON – Medical City Arlington is shining a spotlight on National Heart Month, reaffirming its commitment to combating heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States. All month, the hospital is hosting events aimed at raising awareness, promoting prevention and empowering the community with life-saving education.
According to the American Heart Association, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of hospitals in the United States annually and most of those happen at home. Additionally, only 39% of bystanders feel confident to perform CPR in an emergency, according to the AHA.
“While Medical City Arlington provides outstanding heart care services, we want to help create healthier tomorrows by empowering our community through education to take charge of their heart health,” says Lasharndra Barbarin, CEO of Medical City Arlington. “Through our dedicated team of specialists and community outreach efforts, we are proud to be a trusted partner in the fight against heart disease.”
In addition to a free “CPR/Stop the Bleed” class offered every other month, Medical City Arlington is offering awareness opportunities for colleagues and the community during February, including:
- National Wear Red Day/Raising awareness among 2100+ Medical City Arlington employees
- Safe Haven of Tarrant County CPR and Awareness Class
- Medical City Arlington/American Heart Assoc. Blood Pressure Clinic at Heidelberg Materials and ONCOR
- Go Red for Women Luncheon Hands-Only CPR demonstration
- Community Partners of Tarrant County Employee Health Fair
Additionally, Medical City Arlington is providing awareness information throughout the month of February on Facebook, the Medical City Arlington website, and internal communications to caregivers and staff.
