Medical City Fort Worth first in DFW to offer new artery bypass option
PTAB procedure offers relief without open surgery, less downtime.
Fort Worth, TX – Medical City Fort Worth is the first hospital in North Texas to offer a groundbreaking treatment for patients with complex peripheral artery disease (PAD). This new procedure, called percutaneous transmural arterial bypass (PTAB), provides a minimally invasive option for patients who may not be suited for traditional open surgeries.
PAD is a condition in which arteries in the legs become blocked, limiting blood flow and causing pain, immobility or even severe risks like amputation if untreated. The PTAB procedure allows doctors to bypass these blockages without the need for large incisions. Instead, small entry points are made at the foot and groin to access and bypass the blocked artery, resulting in faster recovery times, reduced risks, and, in many cases, patients being able to go home the same day.
“PTAB offers a new hope for patients who previously had few options due to the complexity of their blockages,” says Farhan Ali, MD, the Medical City Fort Worth interventional cardiologist who recently performed the procedure for the first time. “With this procedure, we can provide a less invasive solution that has a faster recovery with a lower risk of complications compared to traditional surgery.”
This innovative service highlights Medical City Fort Worth’s leadership in advanced cardiovascular treatments and multidisciplinary care for patients with complex vascular conditions.
“By being the first to offer this leading-edge procedure in North Texas, Medical City Fort Worth demonstrates our ongoing commitment to leading the way in advanced cardiovascular care,” says Matt Sartorius, Chief Operating Officer of Medical City Fort Worth. “Our goal is to provide patients with innovative treatment options that significantly improve outcomes and quality of life.”
