Liver transplant program earns CMS accreditation at Medical City Dallas

Liver Transplant Program achieves excellent outcomes in first year, making procedures available to more people in North Texas and beyond.

Dallas, Texas — The Medical City Dallas Liver Transplant Program has earned certification from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), meeting the new program requirements and achieving excellent outcomes in its first year of providing liver transplants. With certification, the lifesaving procedures are now available to more people in North Texas and beyond.

“The outstanding success of our program reflects the dedication of physicians and support teams who care for these patients. This multidisciplinary care, provided by compassionate clinicians is what sets us apart," says Jay deVenny, CEO of Medical City Dallas. "In coordination with our Medical City Transplant Institute and Center for Liver Diseases, our program now ensures North Texans have a new destination of choice for high-quality, liver-transplant care."

Medical City Dallas has provided kidney, pancreas and heart transplants through the Medical City Transplant Institute A rise in liver disease nationwide and in North Texas prompted hospital leaders and physicians to expand the program. According to the American Liver Foundation, 4.5 million Americans live with chronic liver disease today, and the number is increasing. Hepatitis, fatty liver disease and liver cancer are just a few of the causes.

The Medical City Dallas transplant team includes surgeons, hepatologists, pharmacists, nurses, coordinators and care teams who work closely with patients and referring physicians. The Liver Transplant Program also includes experts from related fields — including cardiology, radiology, psychology, pathology and infectious disease — to help determine the best care plan. In addition to transplant services, Medical City Dallas’ Center for Liver Diseases offers innovative services and coordinated, compassionate care for patients with advanced liver disease, including cirrhosis and acute liver failure.
