Construction milestone at Medical City Arlington
Medical City Arlington is marking a significant milestone in its $144 million hospital expansion project. The recent completion of phase two of the surgical expansion signifies the overall expansion project is now nearly 70% complete, ensuring the project is on schedule to finish this fall.
More than 127,000 square feet are being added to the main Medical City Arlington building, providing space for:
- 60 additional patient care beds
- Eight private day surgery rooms
- 12 additional post-anesthesia (PACU) bays
- Central energy plant
- Kitchen expansion/renovation
- Two new neurosurgery surgery operating rooms
- Two new orthopedic surgery operating rooms
- New main lobby, complete with a coffee bar and other visitor amenities, connecting the new patient tower and Medical City Women’s Hospital Arlington
The expansion is expected to increase overall surgical capacity by 50%. With nearly 115,000 ER visits projected in 2025, additional surgery capacity will help alleviate the volume of unscheduled emergency surgical cases. Additionally, while the current construction project specifies three stories, the foundation and structure are designed for nine stories. This provides opportunities for future vertical expansion.
“This important hospital expansion will enhance patient care and further strengthen our role as a regional leader in advanced medicine,” says Lashandra Barbarin, CEO of Medical City Arlington. “Innovation and growth to meet need is another reason our community turns to us as the destination of choice for healthcare excellence.”
The expansion further strengthens Medical City Healthcare’s comprehensive system of care, ensuring that more patients have access to specialized treatments when and where they need them, close to home.
The expansion is part of an exceptional era of growth for Medical City Healthcare, which opened Medical City Mental Health & Wellness Center Alliance in February. Over five years, Medical City Healthcare has invested more than $1.7 billion in capital improvements, including building acquisitions and expansions, facility enhancements and leading-edge technology.
