Community benefit

Medical City Las Colinas in the community

At Medical City Las Colinas, we strive to make an impact on the community we serve. Our staff is committed to offering exceptional healthcare to our patients, but also providing for the additional needs of our neighbors. A local charity is selected quarterly, in which time the hospital will plan a day to volunteer and coordinate various fundraisers to offer a monetary gift. The following are charities in Irving that we support:

Irving Cares

Ensuring that the most basic human needs are met is an important measure of a city's quality of life. It is what Irving citizens believed when they founded Irving Cares 52 years ago, and it is still true today.

Since 1957, Irving Cares has offered a hand up, not a handout, for Irving families in crisis. The agency served more than 30,000 people in the community last year, and the need continues to increase. Irving Cares promotes client self-sufficiency providing a food pantry, limited financial assistance for rent, mortgage, utilities, and prescriptions; employment services; transportation to medical facilities and prescription deliveries, and information and referral.

The Main Place

The Main Place in Irving, Texas provides clothing and personal items for homeless teens and individuals and/or families in need. Volunteers act as "image consultants" and provide trendy, age appropriate, well-fitting clothing. Our goal is to raise their self-esteem by pointing out their best features and outfitting them from head to toe—including proper foundation garments and jewelry for the girls. The Main Place is a "retail store without a cash register" —allowing the students to shop at no cost. They come in with their head down; they leave with bags full of clothing and big smiles on their faces.

2435 Clinic

The 2435 Clinic is a free medical clinic open to the public for those in our community who need diagnostic medical care, school physicals, and other minor medical services. The clinic also offers nutrition education, chiropractic and preventative care. The clinic's mission is to be the healing hands of Jesus to those who are hurting, both inside the IBC body and beyond.

Commitment to patent safety and quality care

At Medical City Las Colinas, we take patient safety and your medical needs very seriously. Our hospital has joined the ranks of other HCA facilities in using technology to bring patient safety initiatives to the forefront of the delivery of care.

Electronic Medication Administration Records

Electronic Medication Administration Records (eMAR) is a key strategy in response to the growing consumer outcry and industry wide push for improved patient safety, particularly in the area of medication administration.

EMAR has been paired with bar coding technology in order to provide clinicians in the hospital setting with a patients complete medication history from admission to discharge. Applying this technology and utilizing something as simple as the patient’s armband has allowed Medical City Las Colinas to successfully reduce the number of errors caused in the medication administration process. Use of this system decreases the possibility of medication errors caused by omission, wrong dose, patient, time or medication. The system not only eliminates potential medication errors, it also eliminates billing errors, as the patient’s account is automatically charged at the time the medication and patient are scanned and administered.

MRSA awareness

A MRSA infection is a bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. The bacteria can affect the skin, blood, bones, or lungs. A person can either be infected or colonized with MRSA. When a person is infected, the bacteria produce symptoms. A MRSA infection is serious because the bacteria are resistant to many common antibiotics that are used to treat infections.

There are two types of MRSA infection: community-acquired and nosocomial. People who have community-acquired MRSA infection were infected outside of a hospital setting. While nosocomial MRSA infection occurs in a hospital setting. Due to the growing prevalence of MRSA in our community, and in hospitals today, Medical City Las Colinas has implemented an aggressive infection prevention protocol and campaign to reduce the spread of MRSA. The campaign includes proactive patient, visitor and staff education and screening/swabbing of high risk patient populations in order to prevent infections from occurring or spreading.
