Creed Kueker
The Keuker family thanks Medical City Dallas for treating their son Creed, after he developed bladder outlet obstruction.
As one of only a handful of programs nationwide with the capability to perform the full range of fetal interventions, Medical City Dallas’ fetal surgery program offers world-class care to families near and far.
When the Kueker family discovered their unborn son had a serious high-grade partial fetal bladder outlet obstruction (BOO), they found local healthcare options in Missouri were limited. Through networking with regional physicians, they found hope at Medical City Women’s Hospital Dallas.
“Thank you to Medical City Dallas, from our small farmhouse in rural Missouri, for providing lifesaving surgery on our son, Creed, at 30 weeks inside the womb,” says mother Alyssa Kueker. “We are nearing the two-year anniversary of the surgery and think about Dr. Kevin Magee and Dr. Timothy Crombleholme often as we reflect on the joys Creed has brought to our family and community. Creed lights up the Kueker household and is the perfect red-head addition to our family of six.”
Hope for unborn babies with BOO in Dallas
When the urethra, the tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the body, is too narrow or becomes blocked, a rare condition called bladder outlet obstruction can occur. BOO places an unborn baby at risk for kidney and lung problems when the blockage causes urine to back up in the bladder.
A routine ultrasound can detect signs of BOO, such as an enlarged bladder, low amniotic fluid and/or abnormal kidney appearance. Treatment options are based on the type and severity of the obstruction and are personalized with the goal of helping your baby thrive during pregnancy and after delivery.
It’s not unusual for bladder outlet obstruction to happen in combination with other congenital and chromosomal abnormalities. Therefore, the maternal-fetal medicine specialists at Medical City Dallas use a multidisciplinary approach to treatment that addresses the bladder outlet obstruction plus any additional symptoms or concerns that may be arise during your pregnancy.
