The Joint Commission - National Quality Approval

Fort Worth, Texas — Medical City Fort Worth has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Disease-Specific Care Certification for Spine Surgery by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a healthcare organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

Medical City Fort Worth underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review on July 25. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards in several areas including pre-admitting testing, day surgery, operating rooms, post-anesthesia care units (PACU), central sterile, neurological care units, therapy services and case management.

“We are pleased that the Joint Commission has recognized our spine surgery team for the exceptional care that they provide,” says Ben Coogan, CEO of Medical City Fort Worth. “This certification supports Medical City Fort Worth’s position as the destination of choice for spine care excellence in our community.”

Medical City Fort Worth was also recently named for the fourth time as one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Spine Surgery™ by Healthgrades, the only hospital in North Texas to receive this designation.

“As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Medical City Fort Worth for its continuous efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”

The certification recognizes healthcare organizations that provide clinical programs across the continuum of care for spine surgery. The certification evaluates how organizations use clinical outcomes and performance measures to identify opportunities to improve care, as well as to educate and prepare patients and their caregivers for discharge.
