$25,000 Grant to Bonton Farms
Grant helps address food insecurity in underserved South Dallas community
Medical City Healthcare is announcing that the HCA Healthcare Foundation has awarded a $25,000 grant to South Dallas’ Bonton Farms to help end food deserts in underserved communities.
The funding is part of the Health Equity Catalyst Grant Program through the HCA Healthcare Foundation’s Healthier Tomorrow Fund, a community impact fund focused on addressing high-priority community needs. This year, the grants were given to nonprofits addressing food insecurity and providing access to healthy foods nationwide.
“Medical City Healthcare is privileged to partner for the first time with Bonton Farms, supporting its innovative Grocery Connect program to help make fresh groceries available to our neighbors,” says Allen Harrison, president of Medical City Healthcare. “Improving access to healthy, nutritious food is another way we show up to provide healthier tomorrows for our community.”
Through the Grocery Connect program, Bonton Farms is working to leverage technology advances to bring online grocery shopping to food deserts in the South Dallas neighborhoods it serves. The mission is to empower underserved communities with seamless access to fresh groceries through online ordering with a central neighborhood delivery point at Bonton Farms – where neighbors can pick up their orders. The Grocery Connect service combines Kroger's online ordering portal and extensive product selection, along with assistance from other agencies and organizations, to revolutionize the way residents in underserved neighborhoods shop for groceries.
“Community partners like Medical City Healthcare, supported by the HCA Healthcare Foundation, are enabling Bonton Farms to advance fresh food access further and help our neighbors prosper in every aspect of their lives,” says Bonton Farms President Gabe Madison. “We are thankful for this collaboration to help bring healthier tomorrows to South Dallas.”
