Signs of a stroke
You can protect your loved ones by learning the following stroke warning signs and teaching them to others.
Think F.A.S.T. and call 911 if you see any of these stroke signs:
- FACE—If the person smiles, does one side of their face droop?
- ARMS—If the person raises both arms, does one arm drift downward?
- SPEECH—If you ask the person to repeat a simple sentence, are the words slurred? Is the person confused? Is the sentence repeated correctly?
- TIME—It’s time to call 911 if the patient suddenly shows any of these symptoms. Other symptoms that may indicate a person is having a stroke include loss of vision, loss of balance with dizziness and/or an intense headache.
Kinds of strokes
There are two different types of strokes: ischemic and hemorrhagic.
Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel ruptures and blood spills into the brain and its surrounding structures.

Arriving for emergency services
For urgent stroke care, our emergency room (ER) is located off of Ray Dunning Boulevard on the Medical City Lewisville hospital campus. There are two entrances, adult and pediatric, with a loading zone, so you can pull up directly to the adult entrance's lobby doors. Parking is free and available in the hospital's parking lot. We are open 24/7, 365 days of the year.
