Sachse, Texas — A 43-year-old Heath man is the first patient to receive a gallbladder removal surgery using robotic technology at Medical City Sachse. The hospital is expanding and enhancing access to life-changing, minimally invasive care by offering robot-assisted surgeries for the first time.

The robotic platforms enhance the surgeon's capabilities during procedures. Equipped with compact and highly maneuverable instruments, the systems allow for more precise movements even in tight spaces. Surgeons control the robotic technology through the device's high-definition, 3D vision system providing a clear view of the surgical site and enabling them to perform complex procedures with enhanced accuracy.

Benefits of robot-assisted may include:

  • Smaller incisions
  • Reduced pain, discomfort and risk of infection
  • Quicker healing
  • Less scarring
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Faster recovery time and return to normal activities

Expanding surgical capabilities with advanced robotics also enables the hospital to attract top surgical talent and remain at the forefront of medical advancements and innovation.

"We are proud to enhance our system of care with advanced, innovative technologies,” says Ben Coogan, CEO of Medical City Sachse. "This significant investment in robotic surgical platforms reflects our commitment to providing exceptional care and is another reason our community turns to Medical City Sachse as the destination of choice for healthcare excellence."

The two new robotic platforms will enable advanced and minimally invasive surgery for a range of procedures at Medical City Sachse:

  • Gastrointestinal surgery
  • General surgery
  • Gynecologic surgery
  • Heart and vascular surgery
  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Urologic surgery

Since joining Medical City Healthcare a year ago, Medical City Sachse has made significant strides in enhancing and expanding services such as the introduction of robotic surgery and the opening of the cardiac catheterization laboratory for life-saving heart care. Medical City Sachse is planning a community event in coming months where the public can “test-drive” the robotic system and learn more about surgical care at Medical City Sachse.
