John Hoover
Chief Executive Officer
John Hoover has served as chief executive officer of Medical City Fort Worth since September 2023.
He previously served as chief operating officer (COO) starting in May 2021 before being named interim CEO. His focus on exceptional quality and dedication to physician collaboration and colleague support contributed to the successful launch of new service line offerings, including a thoracic nodule program, venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and orthopedic spine care, in addition to the expansion of solid organ transplant.
Hoover first joined HCA Healthcare, Medical City Healthcare’s parent company, in 2014. He has held a variety of leadership roles including COO at Eastside Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia, vice president of operations at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas and business manager of surgical and emergency services at North Suburban Medical Center in Denver, Colorado.
Hoover earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Colorado and a Master of Business Administration from Regis University.
Bret Burton, MD
Chief Medical Officer
With more than 30 years of experience, Dr. Burton most recently served as the chief medical officer for Rio Grande Regional Hospital, an HCA Healthcare-affiliated hospital in south Texas. While there, he led staff in navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and was instrumental in ensuring the community hospital’s quality scores remained among the top quartile of the company.
He previously served as a physician in the U.S. Air Force for 25 years, which included roles as chief of quality, patient safety and multiple chief medical officer positions.
Dr. Burton is a board-certified pediatrician. He earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio and holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts.
Brandy Stegall, MSN, RN, NEA-BC
Chief Nursing Officer
Brandy Stegall was named chief nursing officer (CNO) at Medical City Fort Worth in August 2024.
With more than two decades of nursing and leadership experience, Stegall previously served as CNO at Medical City Denton, starting in 2019. Her clinical nursing experience includes emergency medicine, critical care and cardiac catheterization lab. Stegall has facilitated three Magnet accreditations and achieved multiple HCA Healthcare Unit of Distinction Awards for emergency services, heart and vascular care and intensive care for three consecutive years.
With a passion for adults with special needs, Stegall has served as the chair of the board for Special Abilities of North Texas since 2014. She also serves on the advisory board for Texas Woman’s University and North Central Texas College.
Stegall earned a Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from North Georgia College. She is board-certified in executive administration by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is an active member of the North Texas Organization of Nurse Executives. She was also selected as one of the “Dallas-Fort Worth Great 100 Nurses” in 2014.
Matthew Sartorius
Chief Operating Officer
Matthew Sartorius was named chief operating officer (COO) at Medical City Fort Worth in June 2024.
In this role, he oversees hospital operations and works closely with medical staff leadership, senior leadership and management to ensure high-quality, compassionate care and unparalleled patient service.
Before joining Medical City Fort Worth, Sartorius served as COO for Abrazo Arrowhead Hospital, Abrazo Surprise Hospital and an off-campus emergency department in Arizona. He previously served with HCA Healthcare as vice president of operations at StoneSprings Hospital Center and associate administrator at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital Jacksonville.
Sartorius earned a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Health Administration from the University of North Florida, Jacksonville. He is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Anthony Villagran
Chief Financial Officer
Anthony Villagran was named Chief Financial Officer for Medical City Fort Worth in August 2022. He previously served in the same position at Medical City McKinney and Medical City Alliance.
Villagran also held the title of Ethics & Compliance Officer at Medical City Alliance. He came to North Texas from HCA Healthcare's San Antonio Division, where he worked as an Assistant Controller, Controller and Vice President of Finance from 2008 to 2014.
His career with Medical City Healthcare began at Medical City Arlington, where he as Vice President of Finance before moving to Medical City Alliance in December 2014.
Brandon Prunty, RN, BSN, MBA
Vice President of Operations
Brandon Prunty has been with Medical City Fort Worth since 2008 and served most recently as the Administrative Director of Orthopedics and Spine. He has held other leadership roles including Director of Advanced Clinicals, Nursing Director of Orthopedic, Bariatric, Spine, Medical Surgical and Transplant PCU.
Prunty holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at Tyler.

The Board of Trustees of Medical City Fort Worth furthers the mission of the hospital by ensuring high-quality patient care in coordination with hospital leadership, advising on community needs and advocating on behalf of the hospital. Trustees represent key corporate, philanthropic and physician leaders from the Fort Worth community.
