Burn care

The burn center is verified by The American Burn Association. Medical City Plano has one of only two verified burn centers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and seven in Texas.

Official verification is an important indicator that Medical City Plano’s comprehensive burn center provides high-quality patient care to burn patients from the time of injury through rehabilitation. A Verified Burn Center reflects a commitment to quality care by promoting patient safety, regional education and outreach, injury prevention, innovation and research and advocacy.

Medical City Plano’s Burn & Reconstructive Center includes a specially equipped ED burn room, two dedicated operating rooms, an eight bed intensive care unit, a step down unit for inpatient care and a four-room Outpatient Burn Clinic.

The ED burn room, operating rooms and ICU have special climate controls to regulate temperature and humidity for burn patients who often have difficulty maintaining body temperature.

We provide all follow-up care to burn patients at the Outpatient Burn Clinic, which is conveniently located on the Medical City Plano campus. The clinic is equipped for short- and long-term rehabilitation, providing the best possible outcomes for patients.

The Burn and Reconstructive Center of Texas collaborates with the widely respected Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia, a pioneer in burn care treatment. Our highly qualified team of surgeons, nurses and therapists are certified and trained in critical burn and advanced wound care for adults.

Medical City Plano’s Burn & Reconstructive Center offers compassionate care for all types of burn patients, including critically injured trauma patients suffering from multiple injuries as well as severe burns. When 16-year-old Kendall Murray became one of these patients after a car crash that killed two other teens, Medical City Plano’s multidisciplinary teams including trauma, burn, physical therapy, occupational therapy and nutrition came together and provided the teamwork Kendall needed to survive and recover.
