- Cardiac CT and MRI
- Electrocardiogram (EKG)
- Stress testing>
- Transesophageal and transthoracic echocardiograms
- Vascular ultrasound
We’re proud to be accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission in echocardiography, reflecting our commitment to quality and patient safety.
Emergency cardiac care
As Collin County’s only Level I Trauma Center, we deliver rapid, life-saving treatment for cardiac emergencies. Our team works closely with EMS to activate care before patients arrive, consistently beating national standards for STEMI (heart attack) treatment—also known as door-to-balloon time.
If you’re experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.
ECMO Center of Excellence<
Medical City Plano is proud to be recognized as a Platinum Level Center of Excellence by the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) the highest international honor for ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) therapy.
ECMO is one of the most advanced forms of life support, used for patients experiencing severe cardiac or respiratory failure. It temporarily takes over the function of the heart and lungs, allowing them to rest and heal while maintaining oxygenation and circulation.
ECMO services we provide
- Veno-arterial (VA) ECMO: Supports both heart and lung function, often used in cases of cardiogenic shock or cardiac arrest.
- Veno-venous (VV) ECMO: Supports lung function only, typically used for severe respiratory failure such as ARDS.
- Bridge-to-recovery or transplant: ECMO can stabilize patients while awaiting heart or lung transplantation.
- Post-cardiotomy support: Used after complex cardiac surgeries when the heart needs additional support to recover.
- ECPR (Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation): Combines traditional CPR with ECMO for patients in cardiac arrest who do not respond to standard resuscitation. ECPR can significantly improve survival and neurological outcomes when initiated rapidly.
Our ECMO program is distinguished by:
- 24/7 access to a multidisciplinary ECMO team
- Advanced training and protocols for critical care staff
- Evidence-based outcomes and continuous quality improvement
- Integration with trauma, burn, cardiac surgery, and intensive care services
Interventional cardiology
We offer minimally invasive, catheter-based procedures for faster recovery and less discomfort:
- Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI): Opens blocked coronary arteries to restore blood flow
- Transradial approach (TRA): Accesses the heart via the wrist for reduced complications
- Ventricular assist devices (VADs): Supports heart function during critical events or as a bridge to transplant
Heart failure clinic
Located on the ground floor of Medical City Plano’s cardiology unit (north entrance by the ER), our outpatient clinic provides personalized care for heart failure patients.

Advanced heart treatment
Our heart doctors and heart specialists at Medical City Plano provide a variety of cardiovascular treatments, customized for your unique needs. We offer:
Transradial or radial approach
Transradial procedure or radial approach is a cardiac catheterization procedure performed in select patients through the wrist blood vessel, which is also known as the radial artery.
This procedure has several advantages over the standard cardiac catheterization procedure, which is most often performed through the femoral blood vessel (artery) in the groin.
Minimally invasive ventricular assist devices
We offer ventricular assist devices, a short-term mechanical heart pump that helps a weakened heart pump blood, allowing the heart to rest and recover some of its normal function.
This advanced technology is typically used during cardiac events such as high-risk percutaneous coronary interventions and ongoing cardiogenic shock following an acute heart attack or open heart surgery.
Percutaneous coronary intervention
The cardiology experts at Medical City Plano offer percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), also called coronary angioplasty, a procedure similar to a cardiac catheterization.
The goal of a PCI is to open up a clogged artery by inserting and blowing up a tiny balloon. This helps widen the affected artery.
Cardiac emergency care
Our facility also serves as a center for comprehensive and quality emergency care, operating the first and only Level 1 Trauma Center in Collin County.
We care for complex aortic conditions with the latest tools, technology and treatments, including diagnostic imaging, stenting, surgery and other medical interventions.
With a multidisciplinary team, we offer care for a wide range of aortic conditions, such as:
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm
- Thoracic aortic aneurysm
- Thoracoabdominal aneurysm
- Aortic arch disease
- Aortic dissection
- Aortic stenosis
The goal of treatment is to repair the weakened portion of the aorta and prevent bleeding and rupture. Symptoms of rupture may include:
- Pain in the abdomen or lower back, which may be sudden, severe or continuous
- Fainting
- Cold, moist, clammy skin
- Dizziness
- Nausea and vomiting
- Rapid heartbeat
- Shock
If you think you are having a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.
Heart attack care
The cardiologists and heart specialists at Medical City Plano are committed to helping detect heart attack warning signs as early as possible.
We are committed to ensuring patients receive treatment as quickly as possible to minimize potential damage to the heart.
People may or may not experience any or all of these symptoms, which may come and go until finally becoming constant and severe:
- Mild chest pain or discomfort, such as pressure, burning, aching, squeezing or tightness
- Nausea and/or feelings of fullness
- Shortness of breath, fatigue or anxiety
- Pain in the back or jaw or pain that travels down one or both arms
Stemi
During a ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), a type of heart attack, time is incredibly important. A STEMI occurs when a clot interrupts blood flow to the heart.
Medical City Plano works with local EMS services to consistently beat the national standard STEMI time, or "door-to-balloon," time of 90 minutes. This is the time between the arrival to the ER and the opening of the artery.
Heart diagnostic testing
We are committed to providing you with thorough, quality testing. With an accreditation from the Intersocietal Association for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories, we offer advanced and consistent diagnostic testing options, including vascular ultrasound and stress testing.
Echocardiogram
During an echocardiogram, your doctor can study how your heart is beating and pumping blood. We offer a variety of echocardiograms to our patients, including:
- Transthoracic echocardiogram
- Transesophageal echocardiogram
- 3D echocardiogram with strain rate evaluation
- Echocardiogram with ejection fraction
Electrocardiogram
An electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) measures the electrical activity of the heart. You may need an EKG if you are experiencing chest pain, heart palpitations, shortness of breath and dizziness. You may also have an EKG as part of a routine physical, during a stress test or prior to heart surgery.
Your cardiologist will review the pattern to determine if you have any heart issues that need to be addressed.
Heart failure clinic
At Medical City Plano Outpatient Heart Failure Clinic, we offer advanced, patient-centered treatment for heart failure. Cardiologists and heart specialists take the time to educate and instruct you as well as help manage your heart failure as part of a team.
You can find our heart failure clinic on the ground floor of Medical City Plano in the cardiology unit. For easy access, take the north entrance by the ER. Valet parking is available.
For more information about the heart failure clinic, please call (972) 519-1357.
Cardiac rehabilitation
Our cardiac rehabilitation program is accredited by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation for our exceptional patient outcomes and care for patients recovering from a variety of cardiac events, including surgery, heart attack and heart failure.
We are located in Building D, Suite 122 at Medical City Plano. We are open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 6:00am to 7:00pm.
For more information, please call (972) 519-1274.
