Adult Volunteer Program (ages 18+)

Medical City Lewisville offers an active Volunteer Program for adults. We invite you to join us in providing professional, supportive and dependable service to enhance the care of patients and the comfort of visitors.

What do Volunteers do?

  • Staff Information and Registration desks
  • Deliver flowers and patient mail
  • Assist Nursing staff with Indirect patient care in the Emergency Department, Day Surgery and other departments as needed
  • Answer phones and clerical work in various departments
  • And many other opportunities

What are the Requirements?

A good attitude, a gentle smile and a helping hand! Each volunteer at Medical City Lewisville is a valued member of our hospital team.

Volunteering in a hospital environment requires a special training and orientation program that is designed to provide for the needs of our patients and family members. To meet all regulatory guidelines, volunteer applicants must:

  • Attend a 4-hour hospital orientation (held once a month)
  • Complete hospital-provided health screenings including a drug and TB test
  • Agree to a background check
  • Volunteer for a 4 hour shift at least 1 day per week; 3 weeks out of each month minimum
  • Commit to 1 year of service minimum
  • Attend training for specified placement area
  • Meet other training or regulatory guidelines as needed

How do I become a volunteer at Medical City Lewisville?

Please take a moment and fill out the volunteer application. You can also pick an application up at the information front desk in the main lobby. Return instructions are listed on the application.

PLEASE NOTE: If there is a current opening available, the Volunteer Coordinator will contact you to set up an interview. If there are no current openings, your application will be kept on file and you will be contact if and when a space opens.

Summer Volunteer Program (Minimum age of 16)

The Summer Volunteer program runs from mid-June to mid–August. Please complete the volunteer application and return to the address listed in the upper left hand corner. All applications must be submitted by March 31st to be considered for the following summer. You will be contacted in April to interview. Thank you for your interest.

Thank you for your interest in the Medical City Lewisville’s Summer Volunteer Program.

Applications for this program are accepted only during the month of March.

Before you submit the application, please read the requirements. There are no exceptions; please do not ask for one.

  • Students must be 16 years old by May 1, 2024
  • Student Volunteers are scheduled only Monday - Friday
  • Shifts are Morning 8:00am – noon Afternoon noon-4:00pm
  • You are required to volunteer for one four-hour shift per week
  • You are required to volunteer at least seven out of the eight weeks
  • You cannot make up a missed shift.
  • You must have a social security number for background check purposes.
  • The 2024 program runs from Monday, June 3, to Friday, July 26.
  • You must attend orientation either Thursday, May 30, 9:00am – 11:30am or Saturday, June 1, 9:00am – 11:30am

Following are guidelines and information to help you decide if you want to join us.

  • Applying does not guarantee a spot in the program.
  • Your status as a Student Volunteer limits what you will be able to do here in the hospital.
  • This is not a shadowing program. You will not be observing medical procedures.
  • This is not an internship. You will not provide patient care.
  • You may not translate medical conversations.
  • You will have one primary assignment for the entire summer program.
    • You may be asked to help in a different department depending on the need that day
    • Possible duties may be: stocking supplies and nourishments, rolling silverware, answering phones, providing directions, cleaning and dusting, escorting visitors, wiping down wheelchairs, clerical duties
  • Cell phones should not be used during your assignment.
  • The student will provide their own uniform.
    • The Student Volunteer uniform is khaki pants, a Navy-blue polo/golf shirt (must have sleeves and a collar), and closed-toed shoes. (tennis shoes are ok.)
    • No writing or logo on the shirt.
    • No visible tattoos are permitted.
    • Two piercings per ear only. No other visible piercings are permitted.
    • No sandals, slides, or flip-flops are permitted.
  • You must agree to an initial interview, a background check, a drug screening, a TB screening, and provide proof of required immunizations.
  • We do not provide letters of recommendation.
    • At the end of the program, you will receive a letter and a certificate verifying your hours.
    • The verified hours are based solely on your time sheet. Please record your hours correctly every week
