Medical City Dallas and Medical City Children's Hospital Recognized for Nursing Excellence
Dallas Texas Hospitals receives prestigious Magnet® designation for fifth straight time.
Dallas, Texas — Medical City Dallas and Medical City Children's Hospital, the first in North Texas to earn the prestigious Magnet® designation 20 years ago, recently received the honor for the fifth straight time. The designation reinforces the hospital's commitment to nursing quality, professionalism, teamwork and compassionate patient care.
According to the American Nurses Association, less than one percent of hospitals in the U.S. have achieved five Magnet® certifications, considered the highest national honor for professional nursing practice.
“This speaks volumes to the unique environment our hospital fosters for caregivers to grow, learn, hone leadership skills and do what they do best — provide exceptional patient care,” says Joyce Soule, DNP, RN, chief nursing officer of Medical City Dallas. “To earn Magnet recognition once is a great accomplishment and a source of pride for nurses, but to repeatedly earn this achievement reflects the unwavering commitment by everyone at our hospital to deliver outstanding, compassionate care to the community we serve.”
The Magnet® accreditation also applies to Medical City Spine Hospital and Medical City Heart Hospital, both departments of Medical City Dallas.
The American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet Recognition Program® distinguishes healthcare organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. It provides a framework for practice, research, and measurement of outcomes and comprises various elements deemed essential to delivering superior patient care.
Healthcare organizations must reapply for Magnet® every four years based on adherence to Magnet concepts and demonstrated improvements in patient care and quality. An organization reapplying for Magnet recognition must provide documented evidence to demonstrate how staff members sustained and improved Magnet concepts, performance and quality over the four-year period since the organization received its most recent recognition.
