A hiatal hernia occurs when part of the stomach moves up into the chest cavity through a small opening in the diaphragm. This condition can push stomach acid into the esophagus, so it’s very common for those with a hiatal hernia to also have GERD.

Robotic hysterectomy

If your doctor recommends a hysterectomy, you may be a candidate for a robotic hysterectomy, one of the most effective, least invasive treatment options for a range of uterine conditions.

During this procedure, the surgeon performs the operation through one tiny incision in the navel. The navel almost completely conceals any scarring. The surgery can be performed in about one hour, with a typical hospital stay of 24 hours.

Robotic myomectomy

Although a hysterectomy is a proven way to resolve fibroids, it may not be the best surgical treatment for every woman. If you hope to later become pregnant, you may want to consider alternatives to a hysterectomy, such as myomectomy, a uterine-preserving procedure. During a robotic myomectomy, surgeons remove uterine fibroids through small incisions.

Preparing for your outpatient surgery

You will most likely be asked to complete preadmission testing three to five days before your surgery. During preadmission testing, nurses will assess you for conditions that may complicate your surgical experience, and they will perform any tests ordered by your surgeon or anesthesiologist. Nurses will also discuss what to expect on the day of your surgery and how to prepare.

Day of surgery

On the day of your surgery, park in the reserved visitor/patient parking area and enter through the Main Registration entrance. All patients who do not require hospitalization the night prior to their surgery will sign-in at the registration desk.

Before your surgery, you will meet with a registered nurse in the outpatient surgery area who will administer intravenous therapy and any medications ordered by your physician. You will also have a chance to talk with your anesthesiologist and surgeon during this time.

Next, you will be transported to the operating room, and your family members will be directed to the surgery waiting room.

Recovery after surgery

After your procedure, you will be transported to the post anesthesia care unit (PACU) until you are ready to be discharged. If you require an overnight stay, you will be transferred to a main hospital room after surgery.

Before your tests, please sign-in at the registration desk located on the first floor of the main hospital. Valet parking is available at the Main Registration entrance and also at the entrance to Medical Office Building A. After parking, enter the building at the door marked "Registration" and proceed to the registration desk.
