Child and teen mental health

Children and adolescents are every bit as likely as adults (and sometimes more likely) to have psychological and emotional disorders. We tailor their treatment to fit their unique needs, offering rehabilitative services, counseling and access to other specialists as needed.

Child and teen inpatient psychiatric care in Dallas

Medical City Green Oaks specializes in helping youth with behavioral health issues by offering inpatient psychiatric care programs.

Adolescents from 12 to 17 years old experiencing a behavioral health crisis—involving anxiety, depression, drug abuse or other co-occurring or mood disorders—are treated in our adolescent recovery program.

Emergency psychiatry services

Patients are seen daily by psychiatrists, doctors and nurses throughout their stay to monitor emotional and physical progress.

We provide emergency mental health services for children between the ages of 12 and 17. If your child is being transported to Medical City Green Oaks from another hospital and/or admitted to our facility, it is important to know what to expect.

Once your child arrives at Medical City Green Oaks and undergoes an evaluation (which may take up to 23 hours), appropriate ongoing care will be determined. Your child will be assessed by a physician as soon as possible.

The morning after your child's admission (sometimes the same day), case managers will call for background and current crisis information.

Staying updated during your child's stay

We recognize having your child in a psychiatric hospital can be a difficult experience. We want to keep you informed of how your child is doing and are happy to do so, provided you are on the list of family members with permission to discuss your child's care.

To check on the status of your child, you will need a four-digit patient identification code, which is provided by the staff. If you are the legal guardian of your child, we will give you the four-digit code. Please feel free to call and check on your child at any time.

Visiting your child in the hospital

We recognize you will want to visit your child while they are in the hospital. We ask you to refer to our visitor guidelines for scheduled visitation times and items you are allowed to bring to the hospital. If you would like to leave belongings for your child, please do so through the front lobby receptionist of the hospital during normal business hours. If you have questions about what you are able to bring, please ask a nurse in the unit.

Patient and visitor safety

For the safety of our patients and staff, parents are not permitted to remain with their child while in our care.

Our number one priority is the safety of your child. If you have any questions or concerns regarding their care, please call our patient advocate at (972) 770-0853 during business hours. If you are calling after business hours, please call the main hospital at (972) 991-9504 and ask for the house supervisor.
