About Medical City Decatur Outpatient Laboratory

Our outpatient laboratory program

Our lab, a service of Medical City Decatur Hospital, provides a full range of services for you and your provider, including around-the-clock clinical and pathological testing.

Our team includes a board-certified pathologist who serves as the laboratory's director, as well as highly trained technicians, medical technologists and biologists with Board of Registry certification. We use advanced instrumentation to analyze specimens, getting the highest quality results to you and your physician in a timely manner.

Our hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 4:30pm.

Our lab services

An integral part of most hospitals' patient care, our critical testing services allow physicians and staff to provide the best possible care for you. Our services include:

  • Microbiology
  • Blood bank
  • Immunology
  • Pathology

Advanced technology

Our outpatient lab provides a full range of testing capabilities using the following equipment and latest technology:

  • Automated transfusion equipment — This technology is not normally found in hospitals our size.
  • Chemistry analyzers — Allows tests to be done in-house that previously had to be sent out, reducing turn around time for results and treatment.
  • Molecular testing — Our lab is in the beginning phase of performing select genetic testing procedures.
  • Urinalysis — We offer fully automated technology for quicker, more reliable results.

Blood testing

At our facility, we partner with Carter Blood Care to obtain blood products. Outpatient phlebotomy services are available through Quest, LabCorp or LabOne Reference Laboratories if you have commercial insurance. The team at our lab performs over 200,000 tests each year, providing clinical and pathology information to your physicians in both Wise County and the surrounding areas.

National accreditation

Our outpatient lab is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and maintains Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certification that is regulated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Our accreditation from The Joint Commission ensures the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients.
