Adult volunteer program at Medical City Plano

Medical City Plano volunteers are respected members of the health care team. Whether they are escorting patients to their destination, providing clerical assistance or serving as a family liaison in the emergency room, their support is an essential ingredient in delivering the highest quality health care available in Collin County. We invite you to join our diverse team of energetic, dedicated and compassionate volunteers.

    • Babies are the most precious patients. Medical City Plano is proud to announce we now offer volunteer opportunities to hold most precious patients at the hospital. This position also visits our antepartum mothers. To qualify:
      • Potential Volunteer will interview via telephone
      • If selected, potential Volunteer will interview with staff
      • Volunteer must submit drug screen
      • Volunteer must not wear artificial nails
      • Must be able to lift 20 lbs
      • Other qualifications will be discussed

Volunteers typically work a regularly scheduled 4-hour daytime shift once a week (Monday - Friday). Evening and late afternoon assignments as well as weekend assignments are available on a limited basis in specific assignment areas.

2020 summer volunteer information

Thank you for your interest in our Summer Volunteer program at Medical City Plano. We continue to monitor developments regarding COVID-19 and its potential impact on our facilities and community. As a precaution, Medical City Healthcare facilities are joining other HCA Healthcare hospitals around the country in implementing enhanced safety procedures. For the safety and security of our patients, caregivers and volunteers, we are choosing to cancel our summer program for this year. We thank you for your desire to volunteer with us and ask you return to our website next year to apply for the 2021 summer volunteer program.

Volunteer requirements:

Commitment: Due to the resources and time invested in volunteer training, we require a minimum commitment of one 4 hour shift per week for a minimum of 6 months. There are no exceptions.

Age: Must be 18 years of age or older.

Background Check: All prospective volunteers must be willing to complete a background check. Requirements for the background check are: driver’s license number, social security number as well as current and former address(s).

Health Screening: New volunteers must complete a tuberculosis (TB) skin test (this is completed at our facility at no charge to the volunteer, unless guidelines are not followed). New volunteers need to provide a current list of immunizations. Volunteers are also required to have the annual flu vaccine which is offered at our facility, as supplies allow, at no charge to the volunteer. Flu clinics are held in October.

New Volunteer Orientation: All new volunteers must attend a new volunteer orientation session which is typically held in the evening once a month in a classroom environment and takes 3 – 3 ½ hours. Volunteers will also receive training respective to the area they will be volunteering in.

Uniform: A blue volunteer jacket is provided by the facility. Volunteers must provide their own khaki pants and white shirt.
