Volunteers typically work a regularly scheduled 4-hour daytime shift once a week (Monday - Friday). Evening and late afternoon assignments as well as weekend assignments are available on a limited basis in specific assignment areas.

Volunteer requirements:

Commitment: Due to the resources and time invested in volunteer training, we require a minimum commitment of one 4 hour shift per week for a minimum of 6 months. There are no exceptions.

Age: Must be 18 years of age or older.

Background Check: All prospective volunteers must be willing to complete a background check. Requirements for the background check are: driver’s license number, social security number as well as current and former address(s).

Health Screening: New volunteers must complete a tuberculosis (TB) skin test (this is completed at our facility at no charge to the volunteer, unless guidelines are not followed). New volunteers need to provide a current list of immunizations, including the COVID-19 vaccine. Volunteers are also required to have the annual flu vaccine which is offered at our facility, as supplies allow, at no charge to the volunteer. Flu clinics are generally held in October.

New Volunteer Orientation: All new volunteers must attend a new volunteer orientation session which is typically held in the evening once a month in a classroom environment and takes 3 – 3 ½ hours. Volunteers will also receive training respective to the area they will be volunteering in.

Uniform: A blue volunteer jacket is provided by the facility. Volunteers must provide their own khaki pants and white shirt.
