The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has approved Medical City Fort Worth’s Gastroenterology Fellowship program for initial accreditation status, as of January 2017.
(6) ACGME – Approved Positions
The Gastroenterology Fellowship at Medical City Fort Worth is designed to provide rigorous training in Clinical Gastroenterology. The program is three years in duration, and has two positions available in each academic year. Residents may be accepted into the program only after successfully completing three years of general Internal Medicine Residency training. The Base Training Institution is Medical City Fort Worth. Continuity outpatient clinic training is provided at the base teaching site as well as at affiliate sites.
Lecture series, conferences, journal clubs, and daily academic rounds round out the fellows’ clinical learning. Fellows receive a comprehensive structured cognitive and procedural clinical education in both inpatient and outpatient settings that will enable them to become competent, proficient and professional gastroenterologists.
Patient Care Experience
The program provides extensive participation in patient care across two medical campuses. Fellows also participate in a weekly outpatient clinic experience. Training in endoscopic procedures, including EUSs and ERCPs, is designed to advance along with the fellow’s progression in training. Fellows receive exposure to patients across the disease and age spectrums.
The program is designed to provide educational and experiential input from a broad range of specialty providers at Medical City Fort Worth as well as affiliate institutions. The curriculum includes a core of didactics, which are modeled after the core competencies.
Working hours are generally 7:00am - 7:00pm. Fellows receive a total of 20 days of paid time off which can be used for vacation, personal needs, and holidays.
Salary and Stipend
All fellows will receive a $3,000 educational allowance each contract year.
Medical City Fort Worth will fill two PGY 4 positions each year. Fellowship candidates will submit their application through ERAS. We do not sponsor H1B visa and only accept J1 visa sponsored through ECFMG.
